For the Wontons

  • 1 package wonton wrappers Thin sheets for making dumplings.
  • 1 pound ground chicken or turkey Choose lean meat for best flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce Adds umami depth.
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil Provides a rich, nutty aroma.
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger Introduces warmth and zest.
  • 1 clove garlic, minced Infuses filling with flavor.

For the Soup

  • 4 cups chicken broth Base for the soup.
  • 2 cups water Balances the broth.
  • 2 cups bok choy, chopped Adds freshness and crunch.
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms Enhances flavor of the soup.
  • 2 green onions sliced For garnish.
  • Salt and pepper to taste Essential seasonings.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine ground chicken or turkey, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and minced garlic. Mix until well blended.
  • Take a wonton wrapper and place about a teaspoon of filling in the center. Moisten the edges with a bit of water.
  • Fold the wrapper in half to form a triangle, pressing firmly to seal. Bring the corners together and pinch to secure the filling inside. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.

Cooking

  • In a large pot, bring the chicken broth and water to a rolling boil over medium heat.
  • Drop the wontons into the boiling broth and cook for about 5-7 minutes or until they float.
  • Stir in the chopped bok choy and sliced mushrooms, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are tender.
  • Season the broth with salt and pepper to taste, then ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with sliced green onions.

Notes

For prettier wontons, smooth the edges with water before sealing. Add chili oil for a spicy kick. You can substitute with different proteins or vegetables as desired.
