Ingredients
  

For the Cookie Base

For the Royal Icing

  • 3 large egg whites Essential for a glossy, stiff royal icing.
  • 4 cups powdered sugar Sweetens and thickens our royal icing.
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice Adds brightness and helps achieve the perfect icing consistency.
  • red, pink, and white gel food coloring For adding a pop of color.
  • heart-shaped sprinkles (optional) A fun touch for extra decoration.
  • edible glitter (optional) Adds a magical sparkle.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until creamy and fluffy.
  • Add in the egg and vanilla extract, continuing to beat until well incorporated.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the butter mixture until a dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Using cookie cutters, cut out cookies and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Baking

  • Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.

Royal Icing Preparation

  • Beat the egg whites or meringue powder with powdered sugar and lemon juice in a mixing bowl until stiff peaks form.
  • Divide the icing into several bowls and mix in the food coloring as desired.

Decorating

  • Once the cookies are cool, decorate them with royal icing using a piping bag.
  • Sprinkle with heart-shaped sprinkles and edible glitter.
  • Allow the royal icing to dry completely before serving or packaging.

Notes

Chill your dough before rolling it out to maintain shape while baking. If new to royal icing, practice piping on parchment paper first.
