Ingredients
  

For the Chocolate Mousse

  • 1.5 cups dark chocolate, chopped Brings an intense, bittersweet flavor.

  • 1 cup white chocolate, chopped Adds a note of elegance and smoothness.
  • 2 cups heavy cream, divided Essential for achieving light, airy mousse texture.
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar Sweetens the mousse without overpowering it.
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract Enhances chocolate flavors.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Intensifies sweetness, making chocolates pop.

For the Chocolate Cake

  • 1 package chocolate cake mix Can use homemade cake if preferred.
  • 3 large eggs Adds structure and richness.
  • 1/2 cup water For moisture in the cake mix.
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil Keeps the cake moist.
  • 1/2 cup sour cream Contributes a tangy richness.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package instructions or make homemade chocolate cake.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 25-30 minutes. Let it cool completely.

Mousse Preparation

  • Heat 1/2 cup of heavy cream in a saucepan over low heat until hot but not boiling.
  • Pour the hot cream over each type of chopped chocolate and let melt. Stir until smooth.
  • Cool slightly and add vanilla extract and salt to each mixture.
  • Whip the remaining 1.5 cups of heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  • Gently fold the whipped cream into each chocolate mixture.

Assembly

  • Slice the cooled cake in half horizontally to create two layers.
  • Place the bottom layer on a serving platter and spread dark chocolate mousse over it.
  • Top with the second layer, then add milk chocolate mousse, finishing with white chocolate mousse on top.
  • Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours to set.
  • Garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder before serving.

Notes

Allow the cake to cool completely to prevent melting the mousse. Ensure whipped cream reaches stiff peaks for lightness.
