Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour soft and silky
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar adding a touch of sweetness
  • 1 packet active dry yeast the magic ingredient that makes these rolls rise
  • 1/2 cup warm milk comforting and inviting
  • 1/4 cup melted butter infusing richness
  • 1 large egg blended for a tender texture
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract providing that warm aroma
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring imbuing a vibrant hue

Filling Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar rich and caramel-like
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon aromatic and familiar
  • 1/4 cup softened butter ready to add creaminess

Frosting Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup softened cream cheese luscious and tangy
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar for that sweet frosting finish
  • 1 tbsp milk to achieve the perfect drizzling consistency
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract to enhance the frosting flavor

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Fold in the flour, melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Knead until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour until it doubles in size.

Filling and Shaping

  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface and spread softened butter on top.
  • Sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon evenly over the butter.
  • Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice it into 12 pieces.
  • Arrange the pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them rise for 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • While the rolls bake, prepare the frosting by blending cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Once out of the oven, drizzle the frosting over the warm rolls.

Notes

Common mistakes include not allowing enough dough rise time and over-baking the rolls. Consider using whole wheat flour or coconut sugar for healthier alternatives.
