Ingredients

Cheesy Filling

  • 2 blocks (8 oz each) Pepper Jack cheese, shredded For a spicy and flavorful filling
  • 2-3 jalapeños, diced finely Adds necessary heat

Batter and Coating

  • 1/2 cup flour To create a flaky coating
  • 1 egg, beaten For binding the ingredients
  • 1 cup milk To make the batter creamy
  • 1 1/2 cups bread crumbs For a crunchy exterior
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper For additional heat
  • 1 tsp paprika Adds depth of flavor
  • 1 tsp garlic powder For an aromatic touch

Frying

  • Oil For frying. Ensure it's hot and ready

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded Pepper Jack cheese with the diced jalapeños.
  • Shape the mixture into balls, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter, placing them on a cookie sheet.
  • Freeze the cheese balls for about 30 minutes to help maintain their shape during frying.
  • Preheat the deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  • Set up a three-station coating area with flour, an egg and milk mixture, and seasoned bread crumbs.

Coating and Frying

  • Once frozen, coat each cheese ball first in the flour, then dip into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off.
  • Lastly, toss each ball in the seasoned bread crumbs.
  • Fry the cheese balls in batches for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  • Serve hot alongside your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

For optimal taste, don't rush the freezing step. Experiment with cheese blends for added flavor, and double-dip for an extra crunch.
