  • 1 lb thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin beef
  • 8 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper , diced
  • 6 slices sourdough or Italian bread
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  • In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Sauté the sliced onions and diced green bell pepper for about 5 minutes until softened and caramelized.
  • In the same skillet, add the thinly sliced beef, seasoning with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook for about 3 minutes until golden-brown.

Assembly and Baking

  • In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the sourdough, half of the sautéed vegetables, half the cooked beef, and half the provolone cheese. Repeat the layers.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden and bubbling.

Serving

  • Allow to cool slightly before cutting into squares and serve.
