  • 4 slices artisan bread Thick, hearty slices that are slightly crispy on the edges and soft inside.
  • 2-3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened Velvety and smooth, helps create a crispy crust.
  • 4 tbsp basil pesto Vibrant green and fragrant, adds a burst of flavor.
  • 1-2 oz sliced mozzarella cheese Creamy and stretchy, perfect for melting.
  • 1-2 oz sliced provolone cheese Sharp yet subtle, adds complexity to flavors.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat a large cooking pan over medium to medium-low heat.
  • Spread softened butter generously on one side of each slice of artisan bread.
  • On the inside of each slice, spread about a tablespoon of basil pesto.

Cooking

  • Layer mozzarella on one half of the bread and provolone on the other.
  • Carefully position the bread slices in the preheated pan, buttered side down.
  • Cook until the bread is crispy and the cheese has melted completely, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Once melted, gently combine the two slices, press lightly, and let rest for 5-10 minutes before cutting.

Notes

For added flavor, consider adding sun-dried tomatoes or sliced avocados. Elevate garlic flavor with garlic-infused butter on the outside. A sprinkle of red pepper flakes can add heat. Don't skimp on resting time to meld flavors.
