  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup buttermilk Can substitute regular milk with vinegar or lemon juice.
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, melted Make sure it's slightly cooled.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups chopped pecans Plus extra for topping.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  • In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Fold in the chopped pecans.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. If you like, sprinkle extra pecans on top.

Baking

  • Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Pecan bread is best enjoyed warm, sliced, and ready for spreading with butter or cream cheese. It also pairs well with coffee or tea. For storage, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or freeze for up to three months. Toast pecans for enhanced flavor.
