Ingredients
  

For the Pastries

  • 1 sheet puff pastry Can be store-bought or homemade.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Provides rich consistency.
  • 1/4 cup whole milk Enhances custard's silkiness.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Balances flavors.
  • 2 large egg yolks Adds luscious texture to custard.
  • 1 ts vanilla extract Enhances flavor.
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch Thickens the custard.
  • 1 cup fresh cherries Pitted and halved.
  • to taste tbsp powdered sugar Optional for dusting.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface and cut into heart shapes.
  • Place the heart shapes on the prepared baking sheet.

Making the Custard

  • Whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch in a bowl.
  • In a saucepan, gently heat the heavy cream and milk until warm.
  • Gradually pour the warm mixture into the yolk blend, whisking constantly.
  • Pour the custard mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium-low heat, still whisking continually until thick.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Allow custard to cool slightly.

Assembling and Baking

  • Spoon the cooled custard generously onto each puff pastry heart.
  • Bake the pastries for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  • Once cooled, top each pastry with cherries and dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Keep butter and pastry cold for best results. Customize with different fruits for variations.
