  • 400 grams sliced cremini mushrooms vibrant and earthy
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter rich and creamy
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil smooth and green
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce deepen the flavor
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt enhancing every bite
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper adding a hint of spice

Cheese Spread

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise for creamy goodness
  • 1/4 cup sour cream tangy and refreshing
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for extra richness
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced aromatic delight
  • 1 tablespoon dried onion flakes adding depth
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper an extra boost
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese nutty and salty
  • 1/2 cup grated havarti cheese buttery and smooth
  • 1/2 cup grated Swiss cheese melting to perfection
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese gooey and stretchy
  • 1/4 cup green onions, thinly sliced for a fresh crunch

For Toasting

  • 4 slices sourdough bread crispy yet tender

Instructions
 

Preparation of Mushroom Mixture

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, combine olive oil and salted butter.
  • Add the sliced mushrooms, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to coat.
  • Cook for about five minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Introduce Worcestershire sauce and cook for another five minutes until mushrooms are deep brown.
  • Remove from skillet and set aside to cool.

Making the Cheese Spread

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, and melted butter until smooth.
  • Fold in minced garlic, dried onion flakes, and black pepper.
  • Gently fold in all four cheeses and green onions until combined.

Preparing the Toasts

  • Place sourdough bread slices on a baking sheet and broil for a few minutes until golden and crisp.
  • Flip halfway through to toast both sides evenly.
  • Fold reserved mushrooms into the cheese mixture and then generously spread the mixture onto each slice of toast.
  • Sprinkle remaining mushroom slices over the top.

Final Cooking

  • Return the sheet pan to the oven and broil for 3-5 minutes until cheese bubbles and browns.
  • Remove from oven and top with additional green onions. Serve immediately.

Notes

For elevated flavor, add fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary to the mushroom mix. You can use homemade mayonnaise for added freshness. Watch cheese while broiling to prevent burning.
