Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate large bowl, beat the softened butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one by one, mixing well after each addition, followed by the molasses.
  • Gradually introduce the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the hot water.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting

  • Combine powdered sugar, softened butter, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Mix until smooth and creamy.
