  • 2 large farm-fresh eggs

For the Pudding Layer

  • 2 cups cold milk refreshing

For the Cherry Layer

  • 1 can cherry pie filling (15 oz), bursting with sweet-tart flavor
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, for those with a sweet tooth)

For the Whipped Cream

  • 2 cups heavy cream cloud-like and ready to whip
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar adding a touch of sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract infusing warmth into the cream

For Garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare the chocolate cake according to the instructions on the box, or follow your favorite homemade recipe.
  • Once baked in a greased 9-inch round pan, allow the cake to cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Once cooled, cut the cake into bite-sized cubes.

Pudding Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk. Allow it to sit for about five minutes until it thickens.

Whipping Cream

  • In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together until soft peaks form.

Assembly

  • In a large trifle dish or clear glass bowl, layer the cake cubes at the bottom.
  • Spread a layer of chocolate pudding over the cake, followed by a layer of cherry pie filling.
  • Repeat the layers, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
  • Garnish with dark chocolate shavings or chocolate chips and fresh cherries if desired.
  • Refrigerate for at least two hours, or overnight for the best flavor.

Notes

Letting the trifle chill allows flavors to meld beautifully. Properly measuring ingredients ensures optimal texture. Use chilled tools for whipping cream.
