Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and spray a baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, drizzle in some olive oil and sauté the onions and bell peppers until tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the mushrooms and cook until they are soft.
  • Push the veggies aside and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, seasoning with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Lower the heat and mix in the softened cream cheese until well combined.
  • Layer half of the beef mixture into your baking dish, sprinkle with half of the cheese, add the remaining beef mixture on top, and finish with the remaining cheese.

Baking

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  • For a crispy top, broil for an additional 2 minutes, watching to avoid burns.

Notes

For a healthier option, use ground turkey or chicken. Allow it to cool slightly before serving for flavor development.
