Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F and lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish; set aside.
  • In a large pot, add water filling it about halfway, and bring it to a boil. Add the broccoli and cauliflower to the boiling water and cook for 3 minutes. Drain well and set aside.

Cooking

  • In a skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the diced onions and cook for 2 minutes until they start to soften. Then, add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 15 seconds. Next, add the sliced smoked sausage to the skillet and cook until browned.

Mixing

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise (or yogurt/sour cream), one cup of shredded cheese, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Assembly

  • Transfer the drained broccoli, cauliflower, and the sausage mixture to the greased baking dish. Stir in the creamy mixture until everything is well coated. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.

Baking

  • Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the top is nicely golden brown.

Serving

  • Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, and then serve warm.

Notes

For a crunchy topping, sprinkle some breadcrumbs mixed with melted butter on top before baking. Use fresh veggies for the best flavor, but frozen can be used in a pinch. Consider adding spices like paprika or cayenne for extra kick.
