Description

Delicious Savory French Onion Sausage Rolls made with flaky puff pastry, caramelized onions, savory sausage, and melted Gruyère cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (17.3 oz) puff pastry sheets (2 sheets)
  • 1 lb ground sausage (Italian or breakfast)
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until they’re a deep golden brown (about 20 minutes).
  3. Meanwhile, crumble and cook the ground sausage in another pan until browned (around 6-8 minutes). Drain excess fat.
  4. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a floured surface and cut it into rectangles.
  5. Spoon the sausage mixture onto one end of each rectangle, sprinkle with Gruyère cheese, and fold over to seal the edges with a fork.
  6. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For a healthier option, consider using turkey sausage or dairy-free cheese alternatives.
